If you have done nothing about it, up until this point look for a job without a clearance. If you need a top secret clearance, you will need to choose another job that requires a lower level. I doubt they would just toss you into a random job. I would assume that they would determine which jobs you are eligible for and present those to you to choose from. You will likely not be allowed to have a job that requires knowledge of any sensitive information that would be of interest to enemies of the US military. If your credit is really poor, they will also probably require you to take financial management courses and possibly see a credit specialist who can work with you on your outstanding debts. It's not the end of the world, but the military does want to see serious improvement, and you will not be able to get a high level of security clearance until they see that you can be responsible with your finances. We went through that entire process. Unless you could get that credit cleared up... they will sit down and go through every issue they find on your credit report and give you an opportunity to explain.
