How does someone build credit without a credit card?

Li asked:

I am thinking of those who do not have a credit card and pay for everything by check and cash. How is their credit rated? Is it based on a loan for example (car, student, etc.) and what if it is their first time applying for such a loan? How is their credit history looked at then? What if someone is applying for an apartment rental and does now own a credit card?

I have always wondered this.

Also, some people, after having paid off their debt, switch to using cash or check only, but apparently no activity at all on your credit card accounts isn’t good either.

Any input?

bad credit
Tim O asked:

My credit history is a little sketchy with a few bad months of late credit card payments. I am afraid my potential having bad credit will keep myself and roommates from renting.

If I have bad recent credit history but my 3 roommates have good credit, will I ruin our chances?

Hi

I am trying to get a mobile phone on contract. As I had no credit history I started paying with a credit card, repaying everything every month. I have been using my credit card for a couple of months now.
Do I have enough credit history now or should I keep using my credit card? For how long?
Thanks

No credit, How do I start and what is a good credit card for a beginner\r?

I just turned eighteen at the end of February, so I have limited credit history.
I was wondering what credit card is used for building credit, and would be the best choice for a person getting they’re first credit card.

I am willing to buy a used car for a newer year, but I’m pretty sure my credit is bad due to identity theft. Anyways, I was just wondering if there are dealers who will accept bad or no credit history. I know it’s still recession, so should they have a way of working out things for people with bad or no credit at a time like this? Thanks for ur opinions..
