so the LCD is (4x^2 - 1) right? that'll be the denominator for the fraction on the left. using that LCD as the new denominator, let's simplify the new numerator....

(2x + 1) (x + 2) + (2x - 1) (5x), so
(2x^2 + 5x + 2) + (10x^2 - 5x), then combine similar terms,
12x^2 + 2 ---> the new numerator.

now let's put the whole thing together:

12x^2 + 2
________ = -2 , then cross-multiply the denominator

4x^2 - 1

12x^2 + 2 = -8x^2 + 2, then combine similar terms again
20x^2 = 0, so
x = 0

please double-check everything. at least now you get the basic steps in solving this problem. hope i've helped you understand how to do this in the future. whatever comes

The way you typed the problem is unclear to me. Please repost this question and make the problem a little bit easier to understand if you'd like help! The Scarlet Pumpernickel
