Try abbey national. If you can, register on the electoral role, and then take in proof of your address, and something like a driving license. I did, and i was worried about bad credit too. Do not tell them about the other accounts. natasha *

Any Bank should and will give you a basic bank account, it will probably be a solo or electron card but this will do for your needs, its the law for them to supply you with some kind of account. YEAH

Alliance & Leicester gave me an account despite bad credit. You can ask for a cash card only, meaning you can’t use it in shops, only to get cash from a machine… and only if there’s money in it!
I would visit the bank in person, and explain your situation to them. Explain that you don’t want any credit, you just need somewhere to pay your wages into, and to pay bills out of.
If you try over the phone, or internet, they just use a routine credit check, and don’t take personal circumstance into consideration. If you can, book an appointment to see someone in person, they can then override the system and will be more helpful.
Good luck, I know what it’s like when no-one will touch you… Depressing, but there are people out there that will help you.

My B/F Had bad credit. As an ex bankrupt, the bank gave him an account call Gregory Pennington Account. Its very basic and I believe it was through Natwest, but try all the major banks, ask about this account and someone should point you in the right location.

Go to Natwest, and ask for a basic Step current account.
This gives you a bank account, and a solo card, but no overdraft or chequebook.
Because you can’t go into debt with the account, they let pretty much anyone have one. I know people who have got them with defaults and CCJ’s on their credit file.
Make sure you ask for a current Step account, and not the savings account, as in the savings account you need to keep a minimum balance of £50 to keep the account open.
The account is very simple to open, you just need to go to the local branch and fill in a form, with a form of id such as a passport, and a couple of utility bills (gas, water, electric etc) as proof of address. claimbankchargesback

Halifax or Abbey National do basic bank accounts, they accepted me and I’ve had spectacular bad credit in the past! I think the Post Office account is also a basic account, which allows Direct debits, but look into this one carefully, because I’ve heard that the PO are doing away with bank accounts (but then I could be wrong). Hi I have bad credit rating and CCJ but had no problem opening a Cashminder account with the Co-operative Bank.
They are really helpful too if there is any type of problem. Also you can sign up for internet banking with this account too. You will receive an Electron card on this account. All the best in getting your account. Karen D
